BEIRUT — Telecommunications services provided by Ogero, the public operator in charge of managing fixed telephony and internet in Lebanon, were interrupted Wednesday morning in the area of Chiyah, in the southern suburbs of Beirut, the operator announced.

This failure is due to the "pressure on the generators" supplying power to the Chiyah area in the absence of state electricity. A team of technicians from Ogero is currently trying to repair this failure.

This type of breakdown has become a recurring problem in Lebanon, which is in the midst of an economic crisis and where much public infrastructure is in disrepair. Government power is limited to a few hours a day on average, and the country's power plants are often shut down. Private generators, which provide backup power during the long hours of electricity outages, often break down.
