BEIRUT — The Lebanese Health Ministry on Tuesday ordered the closure of the B. N. daycare center in Bchamoun, after an 11-month-old boy repeatedly hit another child, aged 15 months, according to a ministry statement.

Photos of an assaulted child with a swollen face circulated on social media earlier in the week, prompting the ministry to launch its investigation.

The ministry interrogated the owners of the premises as part of the investigation and it became apparent that the incident occurred while the children were left unattended for a prolonged period of time.

The Health Ministry said in its statement that the incident "is the result of negligence that cannot be tolerated."

As a result, the B.N daycare "will remain closed until the investigation is completed, the necessary procedures are put in place and the causes that led to this incident are addressed," the ministry said.
