BEIRUT — Forces of Change MPs will on Monday start their first round of meetings with parliamentary blocs and independent MPs to discuss the goals of the political initiative they launched on Sept. 3 to define the profile of the future Lebanese president, the 13 MPs announced in a statement Sunday.

The Forces of Change MPs added that they will listen to the other MPs' point of views during those consultative meetings in order to go through the presidential elections while "demonstrating national responsibility" and to agree on "a rescue path that would begin with the presidential elections."

The 13 MPs also said that they would conclude the first round of meetings next Saturday and move to the second round the following week.

Last week, the 13 MPs launched their initiative for the presidential election at a press conference, during which they threatened to resort to "popular pressure methods" if a new head of state is not elected before Oct. 20, 2022. President Michel Aoun's term ends on Oct. 31, and the electoral period to select his successor started on Aug. 31.
