BEIRUT — The Ukrainian Embassy in Lebanon said on Tuesday that the first shipment of grain exported from Ukraine since the Russian invasion in February, which was supposed to dock in Lebanon two days ago, has been canceled in accordance with an agreement reached between the buyer and seller.
Here’s what we know:
• “Due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the closure of the ports, the shipment arrived five months later,” the embassy said in a tweet, without specifying the location. “The buyer and seller have reached an agreement to cancel the order,” noting that “the seller is currently considering other grain purchase orders.”
• On Saturday, the embassy announced that the arrival of the Razoni ship had been postponed, without giving further details.
• On Monday, the embassy said that "the end-buyer in Lebanon refused to accept the shipment due to the delay in delivery terms.”
• The Sierra Leone-flagged Razoni, the first ship to leave Ukraine's Odessa port since Russia's invasion, was carrying more than 26,000 tons of corn to Lebanon, as animal feed, and was set to dock in Tripoli port.
