Mikati and Bou Habib call for broad diaspora participation in vote

BEIRUT — Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Foreign Affairs Minister Abdallah Bou Habib both called on Thursday for the heavy participation of voters during the inauguration of Chamber of Management and Supervision of Legislative Abroad on the eve of the diaspora parliamentary ballot.

Here’s what we know:

    • “We’ve deployed all the necessary efforts to make the electoral process succeed at the greatest possible scale,” Bou Habib said, adding that they would ensure “the organization of the vote with professionalism, far from agendas and political biases.”

    • Mikati said that the vote would allow “a change to happen,” saying that the elections “will be held transparently” amid doubts about the ballot while saluting Bou Habib’s efforts, recognizing that “overseas elections are complicated.”

    • On Wednesday, Mikati noted “infractions” in the elections while assuring “working to hold the ballot in Lebanon and abroad according to the limited financial means.”
