BEIRUT — Sailors aboard the Lebanese ship “New Challenge,” docked in the Ukrainian port of Nikolaev, called on Lebanese authorities on Tuesday to ensure its safe passage amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the state-run National News Agency reported.
Here’s what we know:
• The ship’s crew asked that “the necessary calls be made” to the relevant parties in Russia and Ukraine to ensure its “safe passage,” warning that its stocks of “food, water, and daily needs” have almost been depleted.
• The “New Challenge,” which holds 23 crewmembers, two of whom are Lebanese, eight Egyptian and 13 Syrian, finished unloading its cargo on Feb. 23 and “is ready to sail.”
