Civil Defence rescues motorists stranded in their vehicles by stormy weather

BEIRUT — Civil Defense teams on Thursday rescued several motorists who were stranded in their vehicles at dawn following severe bad weather in Okaibeh, Keserwan, the state-run National News Agency reported. The motorists had become stranded when their cars were surrounded by water in the coastal area, the NNA added.
Here’s what we know:
• Strong winds that have blown since Wednesday morning have been accompanied by heavy rains, which have thus far caused significant material damage, including the toppling of billboards and trees.
• Wednesday’s storm was accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of 60km/h, according to the meteorology department at the Beirut international airport. According to weather forecasts, the storm is expected to gradually subside over the course of Thursday afternoon.
