BEIRUT — The Economy Ministry hiked bread prices again Thursday. Large, 800-gram, bread bundles at bakeries now cost LL7,000 — a 9.04 percent price increase — and small, 380-gram, bundles cost LL5,000, a 11.11 percent increase. Prices at shops and supermarkets are LL500 higher per bundle.
Here is what we know:
• The Economy Ministry released a statement Thursday alongside the new prices, noting that it had slightly reduced the weight of large bread bundles “to keep the price within acceptable margins following the rise in prices of ingredients needed to produce bread,” the state-run National News Agency reported.
• Last week, large bundles were set at 810 grams as opposed to this week’s bundles, which are 800 grams. However, the small bundle retained its weight of 380 grams, as set on Nov. 3.
