A large fire broke out Saturday evening behind the old Sunday market in Tripoli where thick black smoke covered the city's sky and reached several surrounding residential neighborhoods, including Abu Samra, reported L'Orient Today's correspondent.
It appeared that the fire originated from the Tripoli municipal dump where waste is frequently incinerated with no regard for the environment and public health. Residents called on the relevant official authorities and the Ministries of Environment and Interior to urgently intervene to put an end to these practices and hold those responsible accountable.
